SugarCRM picked up a win in the first major North American womens race of the year, the Webcor San Jose Classic Criterium. In a stellar field that included US National Champion Brooke Miller and Kat Carroll from Team TIBCO, multiple former US champion Tina Mayola Pic from Colavita, Webcor's World Cup Winner Kathryn Curi Matthis and all the dominant US Professional Teams, Laura Van Gilder (SugarCRM) used her craftiness and a superbly efficient SugarCRM team to claim the victory in the sprint to the line. The race was animated by a number of attacks from a peleton of riders eager to test their legs at this season opener. With 5 laps to go, a dangerous break including Kathryn Matthis was brought back, and SugarCRM began the leadout, with a full force TIBCO taking over 2 laps from the finish.But it was the experience and pure speed of Van Gilder that gave SugarCRM their first win of 2009- in their first major race as a team!
